Excess neck fat has traditionally been treated with liposuction. Often with liposuction it is difficult to achieve a uniform result, and furthermore, the skin often appears more lax after the treatment. Compression garments are required for a few weeks which is also inconvenient.

The Palomar Lux Lift uses many microbeams to penetrate into the dermis far below the outer most skin causing collagen contraction and remodeling. The outer surface of the skin is safely cooled during treatment by the patented sapphire tip eliminating pain and leaving the outermost layer of skin acting as a barrier to the elements while the deeper tissues heal and tighten.

Because these microbeams only target a pin-dot size of skin tissue at a time, the untouched skin surrounding the treated skin protects the integrity of the epidermis and healing occurs quite quickly. There is negligible downtime (1-2 days of slight swelling) and no reason to miss work! Patients will experience about 2 hours of heat to the face immediately after treatment and about 24 hours of redness. Because there is no actual peeling of skin, patients remark that the downtime is very minimal- which is very different to most of the machines available. Vertical neck bands are caused by changes in the platysma muscle which is the band of muscles from the collar bone to the jawline and can normally be seen when the teeth are clenched hard. This muscle, with time, can separate into bands and this can be aesthetically undesirable.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be injected into these bands to help flatten them. Anti-wrinkle injections can also be injected into the areas where bands are not present to help reduce the downward pull of the platysma muscle on the face. A resulting lift in the face can often result. In addition to stopping the platysmal bands from forming, some injections can be placed along the jawline to help stop the pull of these muscles on the face and therefore help to lift the face.

The Nefertiti Lift

The Nefertiti lift is a new procedure to achieve a more youthful looking jawline and neck area without surgery. Developed by Dr Phillip Levy in France it is providing a mini lift and more jaw area definition for women who are have started to loose youthful tautness

How does the Nefertiti lift work?

The Nefertiti lift works by relaxing muscles beneath the jaw which contribute to a down ward pull and loss of tautness along the jaw. Once these muscles are relaxed the net effect is an upward pull from facial muscles, creating a younger looking jawline and face.

Photofacials

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment or Photofacials uses multiple wavelengths of light to gently remodel the collagen and is used to eliminate superficial skin color irregularities.
This treatment is best suited to treat pigmentation and vascular changes rather than changes in the skin texture.

Poikiloderma of Civatte

Poikiloderma of Civatte is a condition that causes a red-brown discoloration on the side of the neck. The redness represents superficial capillaries and the brown discoloration is overlying pigmentation. The area that is shaded by the chin is usually spared. Poikiloderma is exacerbated by UV exposure, but the underlying cause is not known. Perfumes and various cosmetics have been implicated, as well as hormonal causes like low estrogen levels. People with a family history of poikiloderma as well as fair-skinned individuals are more likely to develop this condition.

Avoidance of potential causes of poikiloderma such as perfumes, UV radiation, and various cosmetics is the first step in treating poikiloderma.

Poikiloderma is best treated with the Intense Pulse Light Treatments. This helps to reduce the pigmentation and close off any superficial capillaries causing the redness. The wavelengths used in the Lumenis IPLare specifically attracted to the capillaries and pigmentation, and hence normal skin is relatively unaffected.

Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion is a superficial type of treatment using very fine crystals of aluminum oxide to remove the dead outer layer of the skin resulting in a smoother skin surface. The procedure takes 30 minutes and patients can immediately return to regular activity. Only the very surface cells of the skin are removed, so no additional wound is created. Microdermabrasion is a technique can be helpful with fine skin texture and pigmentation. Generally, more than 12 treatments are required and the results are usually slight, and certainly a lot less dramatic than the other treatments mentioned above. To learn more click here. The tissues of the neck are usually thinner and more sensitive than that of the face, and need to be treated more cautiously. Chemical peels and Microdermabrasions may be used to help exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce pigmentation and solar damage. Skin care containing retinoic acid or hydroquinone can also help, but can be very irritating in this area in comparison to their effect on the face.

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels use a chemical solution to burn away the fine outer layers of the skin. These topical preparations including lactic acid, glycolic acid and salicylic acid which act to improve skin surface, texture and pigmentation. The solutions are available in several strengths, depending on the degree of peeling desired. Healing can take from 3-7 days until a new, smoother layer of skin is then formed. Generally, these medium to deep chemical peels are required to achieve a significant result, but a series of more superficial chemical peels could help achieve some improvement in milder acne scarring without
