FAQ - Laser - Micro Laser Peel

Q. What is a Micro Laser Peel?
A. The Micro Laser Peel is a superficial exfoliation to a light dermal resurfacing skin treatment. The depth is controlled by the energy of the Erbium:Yag laser, and is predetermined by Dr. Wright to achieve the desired goals of each patient. Unlike microdermabrasion, which can remove 10 microns of the skin’s surface, the Fresh Peel can remove up to 50 microns of skin tissue in only one treatment. Afterwards, patients will experience a smoother, healthier more vibrant complexion with a significant and immediate change in skin texture and tightness.

Q. What are the Benefits of a Fresh Peel?
A. Fresh Peel is a smoothing or polishing procedure for the skin. This procedure provides a safe, reliable, relatively painless outpatient treatment which can be performed with topical anesthesia. Compared to a surgical laser resurfacing, patients will heal in a fraction of the time, and experience less redness, swelling, and bruising.

Q. Who is the best Candidate for the Fresh Peel?
A. Anyone wishing to reduce or delay the signs of aging, postpone more aggressive surgical treatments but desire an aggressive treatment with little downtime, are all candidates for the Fresh Peel. The Fresh Peel is designed to treat uneven pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne, acne scars, skin laxity and keratinization (build-up of dead skin). The goal of the treatment is to remove the damage and improve the vitality of the skin. Deeper treatments yield more significant improvement, but also have more downtime for healing.

Q. What is a FreshPeel Treatment Like?
A. Prior to your treatment, you will have a private consultation with Dr. Wright to discuss your concerns and the changes that you would like to make to your appearance. Dr. Wright will prescribe an at home facial regime to prepare your skin for the procedure. On the day of treatment, a topical anesthetic will be applied to minimize any discomfort. The laser is moved in a painting fashion across the surface and the skin shows a light brown powdery residue. A full treatment requires only 15 minutes! A protective balm will be applied to your skin and you will be given a complete at home aftercare kit. The skin is healed in 2 to 4 days, depending on the depth of the peel and in most cases patients are fully recovered within 5 to 7 days. Symptoms immediately following the procedure resemble a sunburn, with minor sloughing on the 2nd day. Redness will begin to fade by the 3rd day and can be covered with mineral make up on the 4th day.

Q. How many Fresh Peels can I have?
A. Typically the procedure is repeated 2 to 4 times, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart for
maximum effect.
